PAUL WILLIAM6 YOUNG (WILLIAM H.5, WILLIAM HOWARD4, HENRY S.3, LEVI2, GEORGE1) was born 18 Nov 1916 in Deshler, Henry Co, OH1, and died 19 Mar 1971 in an airplane over Chicago, IL. He married ELIZABETH ADDIE WOOLEY 07 Aug 1936, daughter of EMMIT WOOLEY and EDNA RAYLE. She was born 29 Nov 1918 in Deshler, Henry Co, OH, and died 13 Aug 2001 in Deshler, Henry Co, OH.

On the evening that Paul William Young was born, Edna Normanda (Rayle) Wooley, his future mother-in-law, was walking home with Emmit Wooley, who would marry her. There were lights on in the Young's house across the street from where they stood. Emmit said, "There must be something going on at Fat Young's house tonight," apparently seeing people going in and out. Edna knew that Violet (Brown) Young was giving birth, but was embarrassed to say it because "women's matters" were not discussed with men in those days. Of course, she could not have known that her first-born, Elizabeth Addie, would someday marry Paul William Young, the baby being born that autumn night.

Paul was the oldest of 3 (Victory and Bob were the other two). About 1917 his father, Wilbur Young, joined the Army and was shipped off to France. While he was in France, his wife, Violet Brown, gave birth to a son, Victory. The child possibly was not Wilbur's. When their youngest child, Robert, was about 2, Wilbur abandoned the little family, and Violet Brown took the children to Worthington, Ohio, where she worked as a cook at the Methodist Children's Home. She died a terrible death of uterine cancer in 1931. She was an indigent patient and died alone at age 36 in an attic room in the hospital. Paul was 14 years old. He was passed from relative to relative, one as far away as Newcastle, Pennsylvania. He ran away and returned to Deshler. The story is little sketchy here -- Bob and Vic somehow ended up in Deshler with him. Grampy Bill was by this time married for the third time to Maud Tussinger. She refused to take the boys in, so Grampy Bill took them to the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans' Home in Xenia, Ohio. Just before Paul was sent away, Edna Wooley took care of him for a while, and that's where he fell in love with Elizabeth. Paul always thought of Edna as a mother, and treated her that way.
